Please take proper precautions by practicing social distancing and wearing a mask if possible. The sale will be outdoors under tents.

Hope In Action – Meals On Wheels
July 2020 -- The Hope United Church of Christ in Cochrane continues to reach out responsibly to serve our community and the surrounding areas with its Summer Lunch Program.

Early this summer, letters were sent out to parents of C-FC students with details and the opportunity to sign up for a meal delivery one day per week to their homes. Fifteen families signed up and 37 meals are being provided every Wednesday.

The Hope in Action committee comprised of Rose Cyert, Lori McCammon and Dawnette Cigrand with assistance from Barb La Duke, Marilyn Bollinger, and Jean Beseler have been busy preparing and delivering a well balance meal every Wednesday since June 10th and will continue to August 26th. The time devoted to preparing, packaging, and delivering these meals takes approximately 3.5 hours each week per volunteer. The areas delivered to are Cochrane, Buffalo City, Fountain City and surrounding rural stops.

Hope United Church Cochrane Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony
In a leap of faith Hope members voted to go ahead with the Lifting Up Hope for All building addition with a ballot count on April 23rd. This will allow Hope to add a much needed “lift” to the building so all can enter and attend events on all levels.

On Wednesday, May 6th representatives of Hope United Church and River Valley Construction, Fountain City held a brief groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the construction. With this symbolic gesture, we acknowledge that we will soon be able to truly live out our intention of welcoming ALL people.

This project is the culmination of years of prayer, research, and commitment to finding a way to make the Hope Church building accessible to all people.

This is a day of new beginnings! We dedicate this place to the welcoming of all of God’s people! Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here!

May the planners, builders, and all involved in the construction work be safe and healthy. May all who wish to attend our church find their spiritual home. May God bless the ministry that will happen here, reaching out to the community and by extension to all the world!

Hope will continue its efforts to raise funds to meet its goal for this project when today’s events allow. If you would like to donate in the meantime, it may be mailed to Hope United Church at PO Box 28, Cochrane, WI 54622

A huge thank you to Alliance Bank, Cochrane for believing in us and helping make this project move ahead and to other community businesses who have donated to Hope. Also, thank you to all the people who have spent hours researching, planning, supporting, and donating their time and money for this project.

"Blessings"

March 15 Hope Unity fundraiser
Feb 26, 2020 -- The members of Hope United Church of Christ (the church by the lake) have been very busy the last several months completing their capital campaign to raise money for their accessibility project. The project involves adding a lift that will allow access for everyone to all levels of the church for worship or community events. It will provide a new entrance, expanded friendship hall and kitchen, and office space.

Through pledging from members, donations from friends and several local businesses, Hope has reached $110,350 of the proposed project goal of $200,000. Heartfelt thanks go out to all who have supported the project in any manner.

Organizers are busy planning a few fundraisers to continue working toward the total goal. The next event to raise funds for Lifting Up Hope will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020. Members will be holding a roast beef buffet at The Cove in Buffalo City! This event will also have a bake sale and silent auction. The buffet will be served from 11:00am to 2:00pm and ticket prices are $10 per person. If you would like more information on this, wish to donate baked goods or auction items, feel free to contact Debra Knutson at 715.495.5085 or email knut1129@gmail.com. Tickets are available from Hope United Church members, The Cove, B & S Express, and Alliance Bank.

Also coming up in May, Hope will be participating in the 100-Mile Garage Sale on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2. This will take place in the church parking lot at 210 Michaels Street. There will be a huge selection of items for sale. If anyone would like to donate items for the sale, members would be happy to collect them from you. There will also be food, beverages, and bake sale items available.

Organizers are determined to continue to work hard to make their dream become reality and break ground this summer! All are welcome to visit or worship at Hope United Church of Christ. You can track progress at hopeunitedcochrane.org.

‘Lifting Up Hope for All’ fundraiser for Hope United Church
Oct 21, 2019 -- “Love your neighbor as yourself” is a familiar saying from the Bible — and a saying to live by! Hope United Church of Christ (the little white church on Goose Lake) is taking that quote seriously as it makes plans to add a “lift” (like a small elevator) in a new entrance for its building in order to better serve the community.

“Our neighbors are all of the people who would like to be a part of the worship services, attend a supper, the 20 or so children who attend our Sunday School on Wednesday afternoons, those who are part of the activities that take place in the church building, and all our neighbors in the communities of Cochrane, Buffalo City, and beyond,” said pastor Colleen Kwong. “Our ‘Lifting Up Hope’ project will make the building accessible to all, and we are excited that anyone who wishes to attend will now be able to do so!”

Hope’s congregation has sponsored banquets for the community, such as the Chinese banquet in 2017 and the Mexican dinner last year, not as fundraisers but simply to offer something back to the community, times for the whole community to come together. The church has also partnered with the local Suicide Awareness and Prevention group when it held its first “Suicide Awareness Walk,” which drew over 300 participants in September 2019.

Many in the area are aware that Hope United Church has an annual chili supper in the downstairs “Friendship Hall.” (This year it is on October 17 from 4:30-6:30pm) Next year organizers hope to have the new entrance with the lift completed before this annual supper!

The Pet Blessing Service is open to all and will be held on October 26 at 10:00am in the parking lot. The All-Saints Service on November 3 is a time to remember and honor loved ones who have died this year, and it is open to the whole community. The annual Thanksgiving service and meal is on November 17 and the church will also be celebrating the monies raised for this “Lifting Up Hope for All” accessibility project. There will continue to be many opportunities to gather and enjoy life as this project is completed.

“Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here!” is the church’s motto. Now the church is working hard to raise the money to make the building match the motto! With a little help from friends and neighbors, Hope United Church will truly be open to all. If you would like to help with this project by donating or attending, please contact Sarah Kramer at 715.497.5222 or Lori McCammon at lmccammon55@gmail.com. Project details and updates may be viewed at hopeunitedcochrane.org. Thank you for any support you can give!

Cochrane Church To Install Accessibility Elevator
Oct 19, 2019 -- Hope United Church of Christ plans to start “Lifting Up Hope” by adding a small elevator at a new entrance, with the goal to complete the project before next year’s friendship hall event at the church at 210 Michaels Street in Cochrane, Wisconsin.

Before then, the church is open to all during All-Saints Service on Nov. 3 and annual Thanksgiving service and meal on Nov. 17. With help from friends and neighbors, this construction project will help Hope United Church be open and accessible to all.

To help the project by donating or attending these events, contact Sarah Kramer at 715.497.5222 or visit hopeunitedcochrane.org.
